Context
In a connected world, a digital policy framework is essential. Equitable rules facilitate legal certainty and fair competition in the digital economy. Dialogue with stakeholder representatives in government, business, academia and civil society is important so that the German Government can help to develop this regulatory framework internationally. It can then ensure that its measures address actual needs and developments and that it sets priorities strategically.
Objective
The German Government is advised on international digital policy and works with German stakeholder representatives and partner countries to create better framework conditions for digital transformation.
Approach
The project coordinates the International Digital Policy Stakeholder Forum, in which interest groups advise the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) on international digital policy and strategy. The project also implements a Strategic Foresight process on artificial intelligence and global internet policy processes. Detailed information should mean that BMDV can promptly identify any need for action.
The project runs a fellowship programme to boost the engagement of stakeholder representatives in digital policy-making. This enables young people to participate in international digital policy forums and processes.
