Context

In April 2019, Germany and Chile signed a declaration of intent to establish the Energy Partnership Chile-Alemania. The energy partnership focuses on renewable energies, climate-neutral innovations and energy efficiency.

As part of this, it promotes dialogue between policy-makers from both countries, industry representatives, associations, research bodies and financial institutions. The exchange aims to support national energy policy in favour of a climate-friendly, country-wide, secure and affordable energy supply in Chile.

Objective

Dialogue between Chilean and German stakeholders from politics and business is well established and institutionalised, which is beneficial for the exchange of technology and the market for renewable energies and energy efficiency.

Approach

The project arranges regular meetings between the energy ministries of both countries and promotes knowledge sharing. This includes organising delegations and specialist events that address questions on technical cooperation in relation to the expansion of renewable energies and energy efficiency.

At the same time, the energy partnership harnesses a network of long-standing working relationships and is built upon the interests of German businesses on Chile’s energy market.

• Ministry of the Environment of Chile (Ministerio del Medio Ambiente, MMA)

The energy partnership has two permanent secretariats based in Santiago de Chile and Berlin.
