Situation:

Sudan has been in a severe political and humanitarian crisis since 2023. The population is suffering from massive human rights violations, displacement and hunger. Basic and public services have collapsed in many places.

Local civil society initiatives in Sudan and in the diaspora are providing important emergency assistance to civilians such as relief supplies. They are committed to resolving the conflict peacefully and to strengthening social cohesion. Besides a strong commitment and local knowledge, they require special technical and organisational skills to succeed in their work. Networking amongst like-minded partners is crucial to strengthen their position in political processes.

Objective:

Civil society initiatives are able to contribute to peaceful and inclusive development in Sudan.

Approach:

The project supports civil society representatives in Sudan and in the diaspora in advancing their expertise and skills. As part of this, the project provides them with technical and organisational advice – particularly organisations led by women and youth.

Additionally, the project provides financial support to local initiatives that contribute to peace in their communities. Such initiatives are committed to help with overcoming trauma, to organise campaigns against hate speech or community dialogues. The project also provides advice and funding to support networking and for the development of strategies of local initiatives and organisations. This supports them in participating in peace processes and working for inclusive governance.

The project places great importance on conflict-sensitive approaches. It adapts its activities to the volatile situation in Sudan on an ongoing basis. Furthermore, ongoing analysis of local and international contexts ensures that the measures provide effective, long-term support.
