Context

India is the world's most populous country and its energy requirements are growing rapidly. The Government of India has therefore set ambitious targets for promoting renewable energies. To achieve these goals and ensure a reliable, affordable and environmentally friendly energy supply, cooperation with electric power distribution companies is essential. Many distribution companies in India are not yet able to operate the electricity grid efficiently and integrate an increasing proportion of decentralised, renewable energies into the grid.

Objective

The conditions for India’s energy transition through distribution companies have been improved.

Approach

The project assists the Government of India in implementing the energy transition by supporting electric power distribution companies. It improves the technical and organisational capacities of selected distribution companies regarding data analysis, data processing, operation and maintenance of distribution grids and disseminates successful measures on the national level.

The project pursues three core objectives:

  1. In cooperation with central authorities, it improves the conditions for the improvement of regulations for data analysis, data processing, operation and maintenance of distribution grids.
  2. It improves the conditions for the active management of consumers’ electricity consumption according to the load of the grid (demand side management).
  3. It develops practical knowledge for specialists and managers of selected distribution companies in order to optimise data analysis, data processing as well as the operation and maintenance of distribution grids with increased shares decentralised, renewable energies.
