Context

Despite significant progress in recent decades, Ethiopia continues to face a number of major challenges to its social and economic development. Nearly half of Ethiopia's population is under the age of 15 and is going to enter the labour market over the upcoming years. To date, the labour market has been characterised by a high proportion of vulnerable employment. Ethiopia's economic potential is not yet fully realised in the areas of diversification, industrialisation and the expansion of science and technology.

Objectives

Selected economic clusters and sustainable investments are promoted, which contributes to more jobs in Ethiopia.

Approach

The project is improving the competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and links them as suppliers to investors in industrial parks.

The project is promoting sustainable production in selected industrial parks by improving the business environment for investors, ensuring better quality of employment and management in cooperation with the private sector and the Industrial Park Development Corporation (IPDC).

Furthermore, the project is promoting Ethiopia as a business location. It supports interested international companies with individual and needs-oriented information to enable more companies to do business in Ethiopia and to invest money in the country. For this purpose, the programme cooperates with the private sector and the Ethiopian Investment Commission (EIC).
