Context

Bolivia faces gender-based violence against women, with one-third of the population sanctioning violence from partners. Although conventions have been ratified and laws passed to provide women with better protection against violence, there is still a lack of concrete preventive measures as well as insufficient knowledge about this issue among key actors.

Objective

Key actors in Bolivia’s public, private and academic sectors are contributing in more concrete ways to preventing violence against women.

Approach

The project’s approach involves participation, cooperation and compliance from all sectors. Its educational work focuses on primary prevention for girls and women.

The project and its partners have achieved the introduction of qualified personnel into Bolivian educational institutions to combat violence against women, targeting elementary and high school students. It also seeks to make private and public companies commit to a life free of violence against women in Bolivia, at work and privately, using the PreViKit tool-kit. An opportunity has been created for companies to apply for the national corporate seal of approval for violence prevention. Furthermore, prevention of violence against women is being promoted in higher education as universities implement the “Participative Route” and “Game Over” methodologies in their curricula, which seek to promote safe and violence-free environments by explaining concepts and developing knowledge in a playful and participatory manner for children and young adults.

The project promotes gender equality, women's participation, human rights, and empowerment in a rights-oriented country.
