Context
Crises and conflicts are having an impact on the economy and the employment of young people in Togo. Togo’s private sector has huge potential for creating jobs and prosperity, but it is unable to fully leverage this potential due to structural difficulties such as a lack of finance, weak supply chains and market access challenges. This constitutes a competitive disadvantage, particularly for micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in the agricultural and food sector.
Objective
The competitiveness of the Togolese private sector has improved.
Approach
The project is promoting public and private structures that advise and support MSMEs. It is working in five fields of action:
•Improving supply chains: It supports MSMEs and their supplier networks in improving their supply chains, and promotes food and nutrition security.
•Making financial services accessible: It strengthens assistance for MSME financing and makes financial services accessible.
•Facilitating access to international markets: It develops services aimed at giving MSMEs greater visibility and long-term access to international markets.
•Promoting sustainable investment: It supports the development of the national investment promotion agency (API-ZF) and the expansion of business links between Togolese MSMEs and major foreign companies.
•Improving conditions: It supports the development of a national public-private dialogue to improve the private sector’s involvement in the Togolese Government’s reforms.
The project is cofinanced by Germany and the European Union (EU).
