Context

Argentina needs support to achieve a low-carbon and climate-resilient transformation of its economy. To this end, the country needs to improve conditions and empower leaders in government, key sectors and civil society.

Objective

Conditions in Argentina have been adapted so that the low-carbon and climate-resilient transformation is successful and the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) are fulfilled with greater efficiency and ambition.

Approach

The project operates in four fields of action:

  1. It supports the implementation of plans to restore forest landscapes and thus improve or restore the ecological functions and services of forest landscapes.
  2. It implements measures in the construction and metal industries that improve the conditions for consumption and production by boosting resource efficiency and making them more environmentally friendly.
  3. It implements adaptation and mitigation measures in the transport sector.
  4. It improves the climate policy framework and access to climate finance, i.e. financial resources that promote steps against climate change.

The project is working with Fundación Vida Silvestre Argentina (FVS), Fundación AVINA, NewClimate Institute (NCI) and Universidad Nacional de San Martín (UNSAM) to implement these measures.

The project also cooperates with many Argentine ministries, especially the Undersecretariat of Environment of the Vice Chief of the Ministerial Cabinet of the Interior, various departments of the Ministry of Economy, and selected provincial governments.
