Context:

The TC module aims to prevent further deforestation and forest degradation in West Kalimantan, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and sustainably improve the living conditions of the marginalised population. This is achieved by strengthening local forestry management structures, promoting sustainable forestry and climate resilience in agriculture, and protecting forest and peatland ecosystems. Additionally, corruption prevention and alternative income sources for local communities are supported.

Objective:

Reduction of deforestation and degradation of forests in West Kalimantan and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. This serves to protect biodiversity, climate protection, and sustainably improve the living conditions of poor population groups in the target regions. By strengthening forest management, promoting sustainable agriculture, and protecting ecosystems, the resilience of local communities is enhanced, alternative income sources are created, and deforestation pressure is reduced.

Approach:

The project promotes sustainable agricultural practices to provide small farmers with alternatives to expanding into forest areas. It focuses on the protection and restoration of rainforests and peatlands through reforestation, restoration of degraded areas, and strengthening of protected areas. Emphasis is placed on capacity building in forest management and training of village communities to develop sustainable forestry and alternative income sources. The measures are closely linked to the Indonesian FOLU Net Sink 2030 strategy and the national climate targets (NDC) to contribute to both national and global climate protection efforts. Close cooperation with forestry authorities, communities, NGOs, and the private sector ensures sustainable implementation.
