The Thai-German Energy Dialogue (TGED) is the central platform for energy policy dialogue between the two countries and was launched in March 2025. TGED supports the initiation and implementation of joint energy policy activities involving the private sector and therefore creates new business opportunities in both countries.
TGED deepens the political and economic dialogue of both countries and promotes climate-friendly, secure and affordable energy.
TGED works in three priority areas:
Energy security: Owing to geopolitical shifts, energy security is becoming more strategically important for Thailand and Germany. TGED acts as a platform for the relevant actors from politics, business and the German private sector to highlight the impacts of potential threats and the dimensions of energy security. In addition to actors from the German private sector such as Lufthansa and Siemens, TGED develops potential courses of action for resilient, diversified and future-proof energy systems.
Industrial cooperation: TGED brings Thai and German companies together to build business relationships. It thus facilitates the sharing of technology and knowledge relating to regulatory issues and market developments. At the same time, it drives dialogue on phasing out fossil fuels. This creates an environment that makes economic cooperation attractive for both sides.
Energy efficiency: TGED connects experts from the industrial and building sector to increase energy efficiency using German expertise and established German formats (energy efficiency network). It shares knowledge and new approaches to energy efficiency networks and certification systems in order to achieve measurable improvements.
