Governments worldwide

Governments and institutions in India, Ethiopia, Saudi Arabia, the Gulf states and other countries commission GIZ to implement their national programmes for driving forward sustainable development.

In Saudi Arabia and the Gulf states, for example, we advise governmental and parastatal clients in the areas of vocational training, health care, transportation and infrastructure, organic farming, food safety, standardisation, IT and telecommunications, business, organisation, water and sanitation, infrastructure, regional development, and security.

Since 2005, GIZ, working on behalf of the Ethiopian government, has managed the large-scale University Capacity Building Program, which is concerned with the planning and construction of 13 public universities for more than 121,000 students. We are also involved in the Engineering Capacity Building Program, which was launched in 2005. In this programme, we are working on behalf of the Ethiopian government with companies, universities, and technical and vocational training institutions to improve the competitiveness of private enterprises in sectors with high employment and value creation potential.

The priority areas of GIZ’s work for governments worldwide are:

  • Vocational training
  • Energy and climate
  • Health care
  • Infrastructure / construction
  • Water
  • Good governance
