Project description

Title: Green Urban Mobility Innovation
Commissioned by: Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ)
Country: India
Partner: Bosch Limited (India)
Overall term:
2021 to 2024

Context

Green Urban Mobility Innovation is a develoPPP collaboration between Bosch Ltd. India and GIZ India. With develoPPP, the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) promotes private-sector activities where entrepreneurial opportunities and development policy potential meet. The project’s aim is to leverage the untapped potential of private-sector innovation in addressing urban-mobility challenges by fostering cooperation among the relevant actors. These include representatives from city administrations, research institutions, civil society and private companies, who are encouraged to work together in an open-platform environment to find sustainable, inclusive, and smart mobility solutions for Indian cities. The project is part of the Green Urban Mobility Partnership (GUMP) between India and Germany.

Objective

An open platform (Living Lab) in India is bringing together public and private parties to promote innovation, collaboration and prototyping of green urban-mobility solutions.

Approach

In close partnership with Bosch Ltd. India, the project has established the Living Lab as a multi-stakeholder platform in Bengaluru. It promotes a methodology that can be replicated across Indian cities to foster collaboration on innovations in the area of green urban mobility. The Living Lab creates a methodology and a real-life environment that foster innovation. It pursues a user-centric and multi-method approach, while ensuring that the development of new products and processes is a co-creative process that can be replicated. Specific activities include:

  • Showcasing green urban-mobility projects to local authorities for city-scale implementation
  • Developing an air quality management system for Indian cities
  • Training public sector representatives on the Living Lab approach
