Project “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs” (3RproMar) –2nd Meeting of the project steering committee

On July 26th, the 2nd Meeting of the Project Steering Committee (PSC) of the 3RproMar Project (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs) co-hosted by GIZ and the ASEAN Secretariat was held successfully through the hybrid format of online and offline participation in Sihanoukville Province, Cambodia, as a back-to-back event with the ASEAN Working Group on Coastal and Marine Environment (AWGCME).

The meeting was attended by the PSC Members of 3RproMar, consisting of the AWGCME representatives from the ASEAN Member States, namely Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Viet Nam; the German Embassy in Indonesia, and the ASEAN Secretariat. Also in attendance were representatives of the GIZ in partner countries which also serve as the Secretariat of the PSC.

In the meeting, GIZ presented the indicative timeframe of 3RproMar from the proposal submission in 2019 to 2025, GIZ 3RproMar Organogram, Output Areas, and regional stakeholder mapping. Among the progress and workplan of all member countries, ongoing activities of the Vietnam component have been presented, with a focus on the site selection for two pilot projects in the Mekong Delta on transboundary plastic waste management and plastic value-chain, national stakeholder forum, as well as the development and translation of national measures into strategic implementation at a local level. At the end, the meeting report on workplan and budget plan was sent to the PSC members for approval.

3RproMar is an ASEAN-German cooperation project implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and in coordination with the ASEAN Secretariat. Great excitement waits for this regional project to carry out activities on tackling land-based waste and marine litter in the years to come particularly with the respective national partners in the 4 implementing countries of Cambodia, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Viet Nam.
