Context

Through national and international specialist conferences and other events, professional groups – from the political sphere, economic circles, the academic community, the private sector, and civil society – come together with the general public to share ideas. This helps to make the focal areas of German development cooperation more widely known. The resulting dialogue strengthens acceptance and fosters the general discourse on these subjects. At present, the events are concentrating on the COVID-19 pandemic and its effects, poverty and hunger, just transition and feminist development policy. They are also covering forward-looking topics such as displacement and its root causes, as well as digitalisation in the context of development cooperation.

Objective

Division K2 – Public Relations, Digital Communications (which is part of BMZ’s Communications Unit) designs, plans and carries out successful high-level events on development policy.

Approach

The Development Policy Forum advises BMZ on aspects of event design and implementation. It makes suggestions regarding event planning, the organisation process, formats, and the scope and cost of services. It also offers guidance on event programmes and objectives, as well as on the best ways to network the actors involved.

The project is able to take advantage of its implementation expertise and its knowledge of methods and processes, including in connection with sustainability standards and gender- and diversity-sensitive event management. The advice it provides is also based on targeted preparatory work, up-to-date research and the extensive experience of its team, which can draw on the know-how gained on efficient, established processes and scheduling from previous assignments. Thanks to its creative, solution-oriented approach, the project is particularly skilled at dealing with challenges that arise at short notice.
