CIM Returning Expert bags second position at the DWIH Science Slam

CIM Returning Expert Dr. Shajulin Benedict was the first runner-up at the “Science Slam” organised by the German House of Research and Innovation (Deutsches Wissenschafts- und Innovationshaus - DWIH New Delhi) during its recent Roadshow – “Excellence on Tour” held in Kolkata from 22-28 March 2014.

The Slammers were selected from a pool of applicants across the fields of Science, Humanities, and Social Sciences.

Dr. Benedict, a CIM Returning Expert, who works as Professor with St. Xavier’s Catholic College of Engineering, Nagercoil (Anna University) in the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, presented his work and bagged the second prize for his research contribution. The prize entitles him to a three-month German language course (tuition fee paid for) at the Goethe Institut anywhere in India. Dr. Benedict’s research work focuses on designing software that addresses challenges related to energy and water quality that India faces.

Dr. Benedict’s position was supported by the “Returning Experts Programme” of the Centre for International Migration and Development (CIM) from April 2011-March 2014. The Returning Experts Programme supports professional reintegration of Indian interns, graduates and experienced professionals, who return from Germany to India, in order to apply their knowledge at organisations in areas related to development, brain-drain and innovation. Jointly run by GIZ and the German Federal Employment Agency, the main commissioning party of CIM is the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). CIM programmes were represented as part of GIZ’s participation at the Excellence on Tour in Kolkata. GIZ is one of the consortium members of DWIH New Delhi.
