Learning in the digital age and competence development

In many projects, competence development is a specific goal. It is the key to effective and long-lasting changes. To this end, we also use digital learning formats.

Strategic competence development is one of our core tasks. Competencies are the key to effective and long-lasting changes. Strategic competence development refers to the learning processes of individuals while also reflecting the interaction between individual, organisational, and societal levels.

Through close dialogue with partners, this approach helps build sustainable structures that enable effective, results-oriented learning at both organisational and societal levels.

We are especially effective when we collaborate

We support professional learning as part of broader capacity development processes. Strategic competence development is especially effective when combined with other GIZ services:

  • For example, this includes: Policy advice
  • Organisational development
  • Financial support.

We bring together technical expertise, management skills and methodological know-how. In this way, we shape demand-driven learning processes that are strategic, results-oriented and practice-oriented. Depending on the specific framework conditions, we make use of digital learning formats that enable quality-assured, standardised and inclusive learning. The digital learning platform atingi helps us make digital learning scalable and accessible worldwide.

Blended learning

We view learning as a continuous process and primarily rely on a combination of different learning formats (the blended learning approach). To this end, consider all levels at which competence development can have an impact and analyse:g:

  • Target groups
  • Prerequisites for learning,
  • Technical framework conditions
  • Learning objectives.

Then we decide in dialogue with the partner to what extent it makes sense to use digital tools and methods, and which are most suitable. Based on this analysis, we design learning spaces that are integrated into partner structures and mainstreamed there on a long-term basis.
