Great Minds, Great Ideas: GIZ welcomes Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen
Great Minds, Great Ideas is a series of events that showcases individuals who provide fresh inspiration through their work.
‘The global climate crisis is the greatest threat to human health.
It’s not the climate that we have to save – it’s ourselves!’ (Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen)
Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen studied medicine and science journalism in Berlin, London and Heidelberg. His speciality is communicating medical content in a humorous manner and combining healthy laughter with sustainable messages. He has been active as a comedian, author and media presenter for over 20 years.
Since 2018 he has been campaigning for medically and scientifically based policy on climate change. He is a member of Scientists for Future and a supporter of the German Alliance on Climate Change and Health (KLUG). In 2020 he set up the ‘Gesunde Erde – Gesunde Menschen’ foundation (Healthy Planet – Healthy People) to establish cross-sector cooperation on improving climate action and health protection and to raise awareness and increase the effectiveness of the One Health approach and global health in Germany. He is also the official BMZ Ambassador for UN Sustainable Development Goal 3, Good Health and Well-Being.
During his conversation with us Dr Eckart von Hirschhausen will look back at his life story and talk about how closely the abstract concept of climate change is intertwined with global human health.
