The magazine akzente is published by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and is aimed at key figures from politics and business in Germany and the rest of the world. The 48-page magazine is issued several times a year in German (16,000 copies) and English (4,500 copies) and offers interested readers insights into GIZ’s international activities. The thought-provoking articles and creative design can also be enjoyed on the akzente website.
In feature articles, reports, images and interviews, akzente puts GIZ’s activities and services under the spotlight. Its reports show how GIZ – together with its partners and commissioning parties – is shaping change and empowering people to ‘own’ the development process. GIZ operates on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and other German ministries, the European Commission, the United Nations and the World Bank, and also works closely with the private sector. Each issue of akzente focuses on a headline topic, giving readers a comprehensive picture that extends from the international debate right down to practical activities on the ground. Topics covered by akzente range from the role of financial systems in the economy, society and governance, to urban transition, food security, education for development, and peaceful conflict management. akzente addresses the major challenges for the future – and offers solutions.
akzente has already been honoured with a number of awards in recognition of its high-quality journalism and design, most recently in 2015, when it received a silver medal at the Best of Corporate Publishing Award.
