Made with Germany: industry partnerships in international cooperation
By partnering with companies worldwide, GIZ improves resilient health care systems, advances the energy transition and helps to open up new markets.
International cooperation for sustainable development is always economic development, too. Income, employment and a strong private sector go hand in hand. GIZ creates the framework conditions for this – from modern vocational education and training, legally enforceable regulations to peace and stability. In doing so, GIZ opens up business opportunities for German and European companies. The core of our commitment: Made with Germany.
A key partner is the Federation of German Industries (BDI). This year, too, GIZ will therefore be participating in the Day of Industry on 22–23 June 2026. The focus is on resilience and sovereignty. As geopolitical tensions and risks in global supply chains increase, these topics are becoming more and more important International cooperation can make the difference here – through resilient alliances with partners who share common values and interests.
Strong health care systems
Strong health care systems are a cornerstone of social development and economic participation. Together with companies, we focus on practical training, technology transfer and reliable supply structures. Examples include training courses for radiology specialists in Ukraine in cooperation with Siemens Healthineers, and training courses for biomedical engineers in sub-Saharan Africa, in partnership with B. Braun, Sysmex Europe and Dräger, among others.
Partnerships like these are often facilitated through develoPPP. With this programme, implemented by GIZ and DEG, BMZ promotes partnerships that allow businesses and development cooperation to pool their strengths. A consistent requirement is that there is a two-fold benefit: economic viability and development-policy effectiveness, from training local skilled workers to scaling up green technologies.
Future-proof energy supply
Energy security is important for two reasons: to ensure a sustainable energy supply in our partner countries and to provide reliable, green energy sources for the German economy, such as hydrogen and biofuels. Projects in Chile, Brazil and Egypt show how companies are contributing to transformation with technology and expertise while opening up new markets. Private-sector innovations and development policy goals also overlap here.
