Context
Argentina aims to make its energy supply future-proof, secure and economically viable. The country has large natural gas reserves and considers this to be an opportunity, in the short term, to stabilise its domestic energy supply and tap into export potential. At the same time, Argentina wants to reconcile the use of these resources with long-term sustainability goals. This requires gradually creating the conditions for a diversified, climate-friendly energy future.
Renewable energy sources, particularly wind and solar power, are gaining in importance. However, structural challenges remain: the grid infrastructure is inadequate, economic conditions are volatile, regulatory frameworks are uncertain and access to funds for investment is limited.
Objective
For Argentina and Germany, the Energy Dialogue is a platform for political exchange, technical cooperation and the development of joint approaches to the energy transition.
Approach
The project supports the energy policy dialogue between Argentina and Germany, focusing on two key areas of action.
Participating in political and technical dialogue
In collaboration with the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWE) and the Argentine Secretariat of Energy, the project organises political exchange and dialogue formats. This enables strategic energy issues, such as energy efficiency and renewable energy, to be systematically coordinated and jointly developed.
- Engaging the private sector
The project organises forums known as ‘Business Councils’. These promote cooperation between Argentine and German companies and make it easier for them to identify specific business and project opportunities.
