Context
Niger’s education system is affected by food insecurity, armed conflict and rapid population growth.
There are great inequalities between urban and rural areas, different regions and girls and boys.
Objective
Education management in Niger has improved, especially in terms of needs orientation and gender sensitivity.
Approach
The project is already in its third phase and aims to improve education management. It promotes education planning and educational opportunities for girls. To this end, the project is involved in three main fields of activity:
- It improves the participating ministries’ skills needed for the application of planning standards.
- A pool of regional experts is accompanying the implementation of a school district map in the supported municipalities of the Tillabéri region, providing municipalities with a tool to improve requirement and resource planning.
- It trains teachers and school principals in cross-classroom and gender-sensitive teaching. A new monitoring system makes it possible to track the whereabouts of pupils in schools, identify problems, and directly support affected students and their teachers with various measures.
