The Colombian peace process shows how even decades of conflict can be resolved through diplomacy and constructive dialogue. However, the implementation of the 2016 peace agreement faces challenges. In recent years, new armed groups have emerged that are trying to take control of lucrative illegal economic sectors. This has led to an increase in violence against civil society activists, former combatants, activists and human rights defenders.

As a result of the peace agreement, transitional justice institutions are addressing injustices committed, returning expropriated land and convicting perpetrators. They ensure long-term peace in society and guarantee the rights of the more than nine million victims of the armed conflict.

Objective:

Victims' rights are protected in terms of truth, justice and compensation and are implemented locally, regionally and nationally.

How:

1. engaging victims in truth, justice and reparations processes by facilitating access and providing psychosocial support, taking into account the needs of ethnic communities.

2. improve coordination between institutions by promoting joint coordination to implement measures for truth, justice and reparations.

3. facilitate dialogues on collective experiences of victims by systematising different dialogue and encounter formats on intercultural and interethnic dialogue.

4. promote peace in local government by improving transparency mechanisms and initiating dialogues between institutions and communities. It utilises arts, culture and sports, among others, to build the capacity of institutional and social partners nationally and regionally.

5. strengthen the capacities of the Special Court for Peace by providing technical and organisational advice on the gender-transformative implementation of restorative approaches.
