Context

Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine has led to a significant influx of refugees from Ukraine to the neighbouring countries in the West. This particularly affects Moldova, one of the smallest countries in Europe with low income. The district health, social and education systems can no longer cover the increased demands for relevant services, as most of their capacities were insufficient before the crisis. This situation can be alleviated by improving the systems that are suffering from deficient financing and therefore insufficient capacities.

Objective

The resilience of selected Moldovan communities hosting Ukrainian refugees is improved.

Approach

The project aims to improve the accessibility, quality and usability of selected health, social and education services for both Ukrainian refugees and host communities in equal measure, contributing to:

  1. Social inclusion and peaceful coexistence for refugees and host communities.
  2. An improvement in healthcare service provision and integration of psycho-social support services in the refugee context.
  3. Promotion of the accessibility and usability of social services for socially vulnerable population groups in rural communities.

Harmonised interventions in the target public sectors aim to alleviate the current situation in the mid- and long-term in the three districts mostly affected by refugee influx.
