Context
Bangladesh’s population and economy have grown rapidly in recent years, resulting in an increasing demand for energy. Renewable energies are set to play an important role in energy supplies in the future, and the government is pursuing ambitious expansion targets. However, the TVET system is not well prepared for this change yet. Suitable training programmes and effective cooperation between companies and vocational schools are lacking, as is information on the professions and skills that are needed. The increasing demand for technical specialists in renewable energies therefore cannot be met.
Objective
The Bangladeshi TVET system is better geared towards the requirements of new jobs in the green energy industry.
Approach
To achieve its goals, the project operates in the following fields of activity: (1) It creates an information base for managing gender-responsive TVET geared towards the labour market. (2) It supports the institutional and personal skills of TVET actors to enable them to shape the transformation of TVET more effectively. (3) It develops and expands TVET programmes in technical colleges and polytechnic institutes to include elements of the green energy industry.
When planning and implementing its activities, the project considers the specific needs of women and disadvantaged groups, in particular. It works closely with the private sector in all fields of activity.
