Logistics Specialist
Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in Ukraine is seeking a qualified professional for the program “Strengthening of Urban Resilience in the Areas of Supply Infrastructure and Housing” (SUR) to fill the position of the Logistics Specialist (full-time, Kyiv), (internal SAP code: Logistics Specialist)
The program “Strengthening of Urban Resilience in the Areas of Supply Infrastructure and Housing” (SUR), initiated by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), is dedicated to rebuilding essential urban infrastructure in Ukraine's war-affected regions.
The program's primary objectives include the reconstruction of basic infrastructure, enhancing digital and planning competencies in local administrations for efficient damage assessment and infrastructure planning, and implementing disaster risk management strategies to bolster resilience against current and future crises. Measures of the program focus on restoring critical services such as drinking water, electricity, heating, and housing in cities severely impacted by the conflict.
In alignment with the EU's 2030 urban, climate, and energy policies, the SUR program contributes to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that focus on ensuring access to affordable, reliable, sustainable, and modern energy for all (SDG 7), building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and fostering innovation (SDG 9), and making cities and human settlements inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable (SDG 11). It works in synergy with other GIZ programs.
Key responsibilities:
The project is implemented through two components: One focusing on advising municipalities and partner institutions (Component 1), and the other leading construction activities (Component 2). The program also implements special initiatives, such as winter aid for Ukrainian cities.
As part of the Operations Management, as a Logistics Specialist you will perform service tasks for the program and, if necessary, advise other units within GIZ Ukraine on logistics issues.
Main areas of activity:
- Advising the person responsible for the order on logistics issues;
- Networking with national/international contractors and partners;
- (Further) development of the program's logistics concept;
- Coordination of planned transports with the person responsible for the order and other team members;
- Communication and coordination with relevant entities, as well as with Ukrainian partners;
- Coordination of transports, preparation of relevant documentation and customs documents (international technical assistance, humanitarian aid);
- If necessary, assist with inquiries from donors and other institutions;
- Preparing and managing documentation for establishing partnerships and ensure accurate, compliant recording of asset transfers in line with requirements;
- Support the Project with other issues related to procurement and logistics;
- Generate data for the program’s M&E system.
Required qualifications, professional experience and personal competences:
The ideal candidate for the Logistics Specialist position possesses the following qualifications:
- Completed commercial training or university studies in the field of logistics management (e.g. humanitarian logistics), and/or in other disciplines with a corresponding work connection;
- At least 3–5 years of relevant professional experience in logistics, particularly within international technical assistance and/or humanitarian aid projects;
- Good knowledge of logistics processes related to the implementation of international technical assistance projects in Ukraine;
- Good understanding of Ukrainian legislation governing international technical assistance;
- Strong analytical skills and proven experience in analyzing, streamlining, and optimizing logistics and operational processes.
- Confident use of MS Office applications, especially MS Excel;
- Organizational and coordination talent, quick comprehension, analytical way of thinking and affinity for numbers, as well as high problem-solving and networking skills;
- Ideally good knowledge of GIZ, including a broad understanding of German and international foreign and security policy;
- High reliability, flexible, forward-looking and independent way of working, good ability to work in a team;
- Business fluent English skills required, further language skills are an advantage (especially knowledge of German), native in Ukrainian;
- High competencies of communication and interaction.

Employment conditions
Full-time position with 40-hours working week. The assignment starts as soon as possible. The contract duration will be 12 months with the possibility of prolongation. Place of assignment is Kyiv city.
