Yaoundé : Presentation of Socio-Economic Profiling Results of Internally Displaced Persons in the Western Region of Cameroon
On 10 March 2026 in Yaoundé, partners and institutions gathered to discuss the results of the PESOP socio-economic profiling of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and host communities in the West Region of Cameroon.
The event was presided over by the Ministry of Decentralization and Local Development (MINDDEVEL), represented by its Secretary General, together with the UNHCR Country Representative. The Deputy Head of German Development Cooperation at the German Embassy in Yaoundé represented German Development Cooperation.
Implemented by GIZ and UNHCR on behalf of the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), the PESOP project promotes the economic and social participation of internally displaced persons and host communities in five municipalities of the West Region of Cameroon.
As part of the project, UNHCR conducted a large-scale data collection exercise, registering more than 32,600 internally displaced persons and carrying out a socio-economic profiling survey of around 2,800 households from both displaced and host communities.
These results provide an important basis for evidence-based policies and programmes, helping municipalities and partners better target services, jobs and development interventions.
Participants also emphasized the importance of using the profiling data to guide municipal development planning and strengthen coordination among partners, paving the way for more sustainable responses to internal displacement.
