ISEW 2026 Brings Together Policy, Investment and Innovation to Accelerate Indonesia’s Energy Transition

Jakarta, 11 August 2026 – Indonesia’s energy transition requires more than ambitious targets. Turning those ambitions into implementation requires stronger alignment between policy, investment, technology, private-sector participation, and the people at the centre of the transition. This will be at the heart of the Indonesia Sustainable Energy Week (ISEW) 2026, which will take place on 19-20 August 2026 at Fairmont Hotel Jakarta. 

Hosted by the Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas and the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (MEMR), with support from the Government of Germany, and organised by GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN, ISEW 2026 will bring together policymakers, businesses, investors, academia, development partners, and innovators to exchange perspectives, identify opportunities, and build partnerships for Indonesia’s sustainable energy transition. This year, ISEW will be held in conjunction with Indosolar 2026, organised by the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI), strengthening the connection between policy dialogue, industry, technology, and investment. 

At a pre-event media briefing held at the GIZ Indonesia office in Jakarta on 11 August, representatives from Bappenas, GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN, and AESI highlighted the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in translating Indonesia’s energy transition ambitions into tangible action. 

“The energy transition is an integral part of Indonesia’s long-term development agenda. The challenge ahead is not only to set ambitious targets, but to ensure that those targets translate into investment, projects, and tangible benefits for the economy and society. Platforms such as ISEW are important because they bring government, the private sector, development partners, academia, and other stakeholders together to identify solutions and build the partnerships needed for implementation,” said Yusuf Suryanto, Director of Transmission, Electricity, Aerospace, and Space, Ministry of National Development Planning/Bappenas. 

From Targets to Action 

The first day of ISEW 2026, 19 August, will carry the theme “From Targets to Action: Delivering Indonesia’s Energy Transition.” 

Discussions will explore how Indonesia can move from policy ambition towards implementation through stronger partnerships, investment, and private-sector participation. Topics will include energy security, private-sector participation, power-sector reform, renewable energy technology waste management, community participation in large-scale renewable energy projects, and solar energy applications for the fisheries sector. 

The programme will also highlight the role of Indonesian–German energy cooperation in supporting Indonesia’s transition, including through policy dialogue, technology exchange, innovation, and practical solutions. 

“ISEW is designed to connect conversations that too often happen separately. Policy needs to meet investment, technology needs to respond to real implementation challenges, and public and private actors need spaces where partnerships can develop. Our ambition for ISEW is therefore not only to exchange ideas, but to help create the connections that can turn Indonesia’s energy transition ambitions into concrete action,” said Lisa Tinschert, Director of Energy Programme, GIZ Indonesia & ASEAN. 

Indonesian-German Cooperation: From Dialogue to Practical Solutions 

Indonesian–German development cooperation continues to support Indonesia’s efforts towards a just, sustainable and climate-resilient energy transition, with cooperation spanning policy dialogue, technology, innovation, and practical solutions on the ground. A strong German presence at ISEW 2026 will further underscore Germany’s continued commitment to supporting Indonesia in advancing its energy and climate ambitions. 

Federal Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Reem Alabali Radovan is scheduled to open ISEW 2026 alongside representatives of the Indonesian host ministries, Bappenas and MEMR. Her visit will also highlight how Indonesian–German cooperation translates into practical solutions. Around ISEW 2026, the programme includes the planned launch of a solar-powered cooling facility at IPB University, demonstrating how renewable energy can support agricultural value chains and reduce post-harvest losses. The Minister is also scheduled to visit the Cirata Floating Solar PV project, where she will witness the installation of a weather forecasting system designed to improve forecasting and support the integration of variable renewable energy into Indonesia’s power system. 

Germany and Indonesia share a strong commitment to advancing a sustainable and climate-resilient energy future. Our cooperation ranges from policy dialogue to practical solutions, technology and innovation. ISEW provides an important opportunity to deepen this partnership and bring together the actors needed to translate our shared ambitions into implementation and tangible benefits for people and the economy. 

Mobilising Investment and Innovation 

On 20 August, ISEW will shift its focus towards mobilising private-sector investment and innovation. Discussions will address renewable energy financing at scale, project de-risking, industrial decarbonisation, renewable energy procurement, and barriers to renewable energy project implementation. 

ISEW 2026 will go beyond panel discussions. Throughout the event, participants will also have opportunities to engage through an exhibition and technology showcase, networking, business matchmaking, and the Business Collaboration Hub, creating opportunities for policy discussions to connect directly with technology providers, investors, businesses, and potential project partners. 

A dedicated Women in Energy Lunch will bring together women leaders from government, business, civil society, and academia to connect, exchange ideas, and explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing Indonesia’s energy transition. 

This year’s collaboration with Indosolar 2026 further strengthens the connection between Indonesia’s broader energy-transition agenda and the development of its solar-energy industry. 

“Indonesia has significant solar-energy potential, but unlocking that potential at scale requires more than technology. We need an enabling policy environment, stronger investment, bankable projects, capable industry players, and closer collaboration across the entire ecosystem. By bringing Indosolar and ISEW together, we want to connect the industry directly with policymakers, investors, technology providers, and other partners who can help turn opportunities into real projects,” said Mada Ayu Habsari, Chairwoman of Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI). 

Indosolar 2026 will provide a platform connecting the growing solar-energy ecosystem with policy, business, technology, and investment opportunities, while encouraging dialogue on how the sector can contribute to Indonesia’s renewable-energy ambitions, green-job creation, and industrial competitiveness. 

Collaboration at the Centre 

ISEW 2026 reflects a central message: Indonesia’s energy transition cannot be achieved by one institution alone. Progress will depend on collaboration across government, industry, investors, academia, development partners, communities, and innovators, connecting policy ambition with financing, technology, partnerships, and implementation. 

Indosolar is the flagship annual event organized by the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI), the national association bringing together solar energy players across the value chain, from developers, manufacturers, and EPC contractors to consultants, utilities, and distributors. As the industry's shared platform, AESI serves as a strategic partner to the government in accelerating a just and sustainable solar energy transition. Since it was first held in 2011, Indosolar has become a space to convene industry, policymakers, and the public, while advancing policy dialogue, strengthening public understanding, and fostering tangible collaboration across the solar energy sector.

This year, Indosolar carries the theme "Building the Future of Indonesia's Solar Energy," aimed at accelerating the adoption of solar energy while ensuring the solar industry grows in step with the demand set by the Government of Indonesia. Through an inclusive and collaborative approach, Indosolar supports the national ambition to expand solar energy capacity, create green jobs, and strengthen the competitiveness of Indonesia's solar industry in a global context.

Over two days, ISEW and Indosolar 2026 aim to create a space where these actors can move beyond discussing challenges towards identifying partnerships, investment opportunities, practical solutions, and concrete next steps. 

As Indonesia works to accelerate its energy transition, the event seeks to demonstrate that progress happens when policy, readiness, investment, technology, and partnership come together.
