Cooperatives at the Heart of Climate-Resilient Coffee Farming In Maragusan Davao de Oro
Coffee farmers in Maragusan, Davao de Oro, took a big step toward climate resilience with the completion of a Climate Smart Agriculture Training of Trainers last September 4–5, 2025. The two-day activity, held at the MAGROW Cooperative Conference Hall, was made possible through the support of the Model Cooperative Network (MCN) and the #GIZ #SPADe program, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Cooperation and Development (#BMZ) and the European Union (#EU).
The event brought together 30 coffee farmer-members of MAGROW Cooperative who are eager to strengthen their farming practices and increase their harvests. This effort also supports the cooperative’s strategic plan, aligned with the Philippine Coffee Roadmap 2021–2025, which targets an increase in production from 0.8 kilos to 2 kilos of dried coffee cherries per tree by 2025.
More than just improving farming methods, the training focused on helping farmers adapt and thrive in a changing climate. By promoting resilience and entrepreneurial spirit, the program equips coffee farmers to secure their livelihoods, boost productivity, and contribute to a stronger coffee industry in the Philippines.
Together, we are working towards a future where coffee farming remains sustainable, resilient, and rewarding for our farmers and their communities.
