SOMACORE Philippine Team Aligns Priorities to Deliver Marine Conservation Solutions
The Solutions for Marine and Coastal Resilience in the Coral Triangle (SOMACORE) Programme, implemented by GIZ, facilitated an operational planning workshop in Quezon City, Philippines to finalize its 2026- 2027 Philippine Operational Workplan.
Convened by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Foreign Assisted and Special Projects, the workshop brought together the implementing partners from national and regional offices, where participants agreed on the arrangements and requirements for the implementation of priority activities on biodiversity conservation and ecosystem approach on fisheries management (EAFM), and the provision of updates on the Tripartite Implementation Agreement.
Key priorities include advancing the Marine Turtle Protected Area Network (MTPAN) and EAFM in the Sulu-Sulawesi Seascape through improving management effectiveness, strengthening of law enforcement, integrating Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in coastal and fisheries management, promoting climate change adaptive livelihoods, and implementing ecosystem-based adaptation measures. The participants also aligned the activities to the targets and indicators based on the project log frame and monitoring and evaluation framework.
SOMACORE is supported by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Climate Action, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMUKN) through the International Climate Initiative (IKI).
