Youth in Action for Sustainable Communities in Georgia

Youth Camp Participants

The energy and perspectives of the next generation are needed for the long-term development of local communities.

The Transformative Youth Climate Camp gathered thirty teenagers from Zugdidi, Samtredia and Oni in Tskaltubo for five days to look at environmental problems in their own towns and villages and to think about what could be done about them.

The Camp took place from 28 August to 1 September 2026 for participants aged 13 to 15. In non-formal workshops, the young people learned about local ecosystems and biodiversity, and about how communities can reduce their impact on the climate and adapt to its effects.

A visit to regional protected areas then linked what they had learned in the workshops to practice, showing how environmental management works on the ground.

Working in groups with participants from other regions, the teenagers identified environmental issues in their home communities and came up with their own solutions. On the last day, they presented their project ideas.

The camp was organized by the Greens Movement of Georgia/Friends of the Earth Georgia as part of the GIZ Georgia project “Sustainable Urban Development in Georgia”.
