Handover of the Centres for Migration and Development in Kosovo
After more than a decade of joint work, the Federal Republic of Germany and the Republic of Kosovo marked the handover of the Centres for Migration and Development and the German Information Centre for Migration, Vocational Training and Career to national partner institutions.
What began as a pilot initiative in 2015 evolved into a comprehensive programme supporting returnees, vulnerable groups and the local population with advisory services, employment measures, training opportunities and institutional capacity development.
The event brought together representatives of the GIZ Kosovo, the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo, and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, alongside civil society organisations and partners, with whom implementation was carried out through close cooperation.
Throughout the years, the programme contributed to the development of national strategies, strengthened structures for reintegration at central and municipal level, and supported the establishment of sustainable referral systems connecting public institutions and civil society.
Economic reintegration and labour market inclusion were another key focus, implemented in close cooperation with the Employment Agency of the Republic of Kosovo through tailored measures, job and career fairs and private sector engagement.
Today, these services are fully integrated within partner institutions and will continue to benefit citizens in the long term. The handover marks a milestone: transitioning from project-based support to nationally owned systems and setting the foundation for future cooperation between Germany and Kosovo.
