In our partner countries, data is often only available to a limited extent and is not sufficiently systematised for political decision-makers. As a result, policy measures are not always evidence-based, which means that they fail to reach their objective and that resources are used inefficiently.
The project supports government institutions from various sectors in selected partner countries in the implementation of data use cases and the promotion of data competences. As innovations and solutions from partner countries can provide valuable approaches and insights for the digital transformation worldwide, the project pursues an approach of mutual exchange and learning in order to share experiences internationally and feed them back to the German data ecosystem.
Selected partner countries use data for policymaking.
The project implements the following three main activities:
1. Use cases are piloted to develop data-based solutions with the partner countries. To implement these, mappings of data ecosystems are being created, training on data literacy is being conducted and digital tools for analysing data for policymaking are being developed, which is in some cases also supported by artificial intelligence.
2. The Data to Policy Navigator was developed together with UNDP to as platform to network and consolidate learning experiences. It is maintained by the project and UNDP and continuously expanded with new functions and use cases.
3. A network for policymakers is being set up together with UNDP to facilitate networking and the transfer of lessons learnt to Germany.
In addition, the project's advisory component advises the BMZ Data Lab on relevant national and international data and AI policy processes.
