Great Minds, Great Ideas: Claudia Roth to visit GIZ
The Great Minds, Great Ideas event series showcases individuals who provide fresh inspiration through their life and work.
‘We want to learn from examining our colonial history and we want to take responsibility.’ (Claudia Roth on the repatriation of the first Benin Bronzes to Nigeria)
As Minister of State to the German Federal Chancellor, Claudia Roth has been Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media since December 2021. Previously, she had been Vice President of the German Bundestag since 2013.
She was active in the fields of theatre and music before getting involved in politics. Claudia Roth remains especially committed to all forms of culture, human and civil rights, climate change mitigation, development policy issues, feminism and anti-racism activities.
As Minister of State for Culture, dealing with collections dating back to the colonial era is also within her field of responsibilities. In our discussion, Claudia Roth will provide us with insight into her résumé and the challenges involved in coming to terms with colonial history.
The event will take place on 8 February 2023 from 18:00 and 19:30 at GIZ-Haus Berlin, Reichpietschufer 20, 10785 Berlin, and will also be streamed live.
