Open Call: Green Summer School, October 2025 – EcoFix

The GIZ-implemented programme on Circular Urban Development, in close cooperation with SENECA Green and SEDE, is pleased to invite applications for the Green Summer School 2025: EcoFix, a 5-day regional training program bringing together 25 students from the six Western Balkan countries.

Empowering Youth for a Circular Future in the Western Balkans

Are you a student passionate about sustainability, technology, or business? Do you want to gain hands-on experience in tackling one of the fastest-growing environmental challenges -electronic waste (e-waste) while building skills for future green jobs?

The GIZ-implemented programme on Circular Urban Development, in close cooperation with SENECA Green and SEDE, is pleased to invite applications for the Green Summer School 2025: EcoFix, a 5-day regional training program bringing together 25 students from the six Western Balkan countries.

Date: 27-31 October 2025
Location: Innovation Training Park (ITP), Prizren, Kosovo
Who can apply: 2nd and 3rd year students in computer science, economics, or environmental studies (or related fields).


Why join?

This year’s Green Summer School integrates EcoFix - an award-winning initiative under the SENECA Green & SEDE Innovation Fund 2025 focused on e-waste solutions. Through practical training, teamwork, and expert mentoring, participants will:

•    Learn hands-on electronics repair (diagnostics, soldering, safe disassembly).
•    Explore the circular economy, waste policies, and Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR).
•    Take part in design thinking workshops to develop innovative, local solutions.
•    Gain entrepreneurship skills for building green business models.
•    Connect with peers from across the Western Balkans and join a growing network of changemakers.

At the end of the program:

•    Five top students will be awarded professional EcoFix toolkits to continue repair and reuse initiatives.
•    All participants will receive an official Certificate of Completion.

Program highlights:

Day 1 - Foundations: Understanding e-waste & circular economy
Day 2 - Skills Lab: Practical repair workshops
Day 3 - Cooperation & Replication: Developing EcoFix action plans
Day 4 - Business Day: Green jobs, entrepreneurship & pitching
Day 5 - Policy to Practice: The New Law on Waste and Extender Producer Responsibility (EPR)


Who should apply?

We welcome applications from students who are:
•    Currently in 2nd or 3rd year of studies in computer science, economics, environmental sciences, or related fields.
•    Resident in one of the six Western Balkan countries (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia).
•    Motivated to gain practical skills, work in teams, and promote sustainable solutions in their community.
•    Comfortable working in English (training will be conducted in English).
