Context
Basic education and TVET systems in Mozambique have been inadequately implemented and managed. Consequently, access to good education and training programmes is limited. The education and training system must also be adapted to meet the needs of a rapidly growing population: half the population is under the age of 17 and requires good basic education and vocational training for the country’s future.
To improve the education and training system, Mozambique must improve educational administration and teacher training, and must strengthen the capacities of TVET institutes. There is also a need for practice-based training and gender equality.
Objective
Educational institutions and selected TVET providers offer good basic education and vocational training in Mozambique.
Approach
The project operates in the following fields of activity:
• Advising local school authorities on developing their capacities for oversight and supervision.
• Supporting further training and professional development for teachers and school management. Teachers also learn how to use information and communication technology in the classroom.
• Strengthening cooperation between the private sector and public as well as private TVET providers, with the aim of embedding practice in training.
• Promoting gender equality. The project trains multipliers in the basic education and vocational training system who create widespread awareness of gender equality.
The project has been commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and receives financial support from the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (Norad). INTEGRATION International Management Consultants, a consulting company, is implementing the project, particularly in the area of vocational training.
