Context

The shortage of skilled workers in Georgia is limiting economic growth and new employment opportunities. As impractical vocational education and training (VET) programmes continue to fall short, the demand for skilled labour remains unmet. Moreover, micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) struggle with limited expertise, while business associations fail to provide the necessary services, and advocacy needed to meet the demands of the private industry. Consequently, Georgia must act to modernise its VET system and enhance its workforce to remain competitive.

Objective

Employment opportunities in selected industries of the Georgian economy are enhanced, offering improved prospects for growth and development.

Approach

The project, in collaboration with the development organisation SEQUA as a service provider, aims to enhance the VET system and develop institutional conditions for private industry and its representatives, in order to tackle Georgia’s economic development. The project focuses on:

• Developing system elements and policies for the VET system, with an emphasis on engaging more private industry involvement.

• Supporting colleges in implementing improved dual and cooperative training programmes.

• Enhancing the role of private industry associations, supporting them to better represent and advocate their members’ interests.

• Providing training and advisory services for professionals and managers in businesses, in cooperation with associations, to improve business models and increase competitiveness of MSMEs. The priorities are resource efficiency and digital innovations.

The project strives for gender transformative results, which is why gender equality is mainstreamed across all outputs and activities.
