The inaugural African Energy Efficiency Conference, held in Addis Ababa from 10–11 December 2025, marked an important step forward for Africa’s clean energy future. Hosted by the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia at the African Union Headquarters and convened by the African Energy Commission (AFREC) under the African Energy Efficiency Alliance, the conference brought together governments, regional power pools, financiers, and development partners to advance practical, implementation-focused energy efficiency solutions.

The Africa–European Union Energy Partnership (AEEP) supported and moderated the African Union Development Agency session on the Africa Ten-Year Infrastructure Investment Plan, featuring Peter Kinuthia, Principal Energy Advisor at AUDA-NEPAD, and Dr Towela Nyirenda-Jere, Head of the AEEP Secretariat. The session highlighted how interconnectivity, regional power trade, and grid modernisation can improve system-wide efficiency while supporting African Single Electricity Market, Mission 300, and the Continental Power Systems Masterplan.

In addition, AEEP participated in a consultation with AFREC on the Africa Energy Efficiency Facility, aligning priorities and exploring opportunities for more structured collaboration.
