Connecting Policy and Practice: AEEP Advances Africa–Europe Energy Dialogue
Between April and June 2026, the Africa-EU Energy Partnership (AEEP) brought policymakers, experts and partners together to exchange knowledge, shape policy discussions and strengthen Africa-Europe cooperation on the energy transition.
From April to June, AEEP continued to facilitate dialogue and knowledge exchange by bringing together policymakers, experts and partners to discuss key energy challenges and share practical solutions. In April, AEEP organised the 23rd AEEP Energy Talks on Electrifying Transportation in Africa which focused on a key question: How can Open-Source Modelling support successful Energy Planning? To explore this, the event brought together experts and policymakers to discuss transport electrification, energy system integration, and evidence-based planning approaches.
To make the discussion accessible to a wider audience, the Secretariat later published the accompanying AEEP Energy Talks Spotlight, summarising key insights, practical examples and recommendations from the session.
In May and June, AEEP contributed to discussions at European Sustainable Energy Week (EUSEW) 2026, highlighting shared priorities for Africa-Europe energy cooperation. Following the event, AEEP published a recap highlighting key discussions on investment, industrial development and equal partnership approaches to accelerating the energy transition.
In parallel, AEEP participated in the African Union Specialized Technical Committee on Transport, Transcontinental and Interregional Infrastructure, Energy and Tourism (STC) held in May, contributing to discussions on Africa’s energy and infrastructure priorities.
The meeting provided an opportunity to strengthen cooperation with African Union institutions and partners while supporting dialogue on shared Africa–Europe energy priorities.
