Context
The youth unemployment rate is high in Algeria among graduates of vocational training centres. One of the reasons for this is that the skills acquired during training often do not match labour market needs.
Training systems must be better aligned with the needs of the labour market and the courses modernised to ensure that the country has the skilled workers required for future growth.
Objective
Employability for graduates of vocational training centres has improved in selected sectors in Algeria.
Approach
The project supports Algerian partners in tailoring the education and training programme to the needs of the labour market and in developing skills for selected career fields, particularly energy efficiency, renewable energies and IT. The objective is to ensure that young graduates find a job soon after completing their training. The project operates in three key areas:
- It strengthens collaboration between public sector actors involved in the training system and the economic sector, both at an intersectoral level – between relevant ministries and the economic sector – and at a local level – between vocational training centres and companies.
- It promotes labour market-oriented training in green industries and the digital economy while integrating digital learning strategies.
- It enhances participation in training programmes aligned with labour market requirements, especially among women. To achieve this, it raises awareness of job requirements and provides modernised, digital and tailored training opportunities.
